The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in the Education System

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence has created growth in all aspects of our lives. From lifestyle to food and exercising, security, education and job opportunities, the current generation is witnessing one of technologies greatest achievements. The education sector in itself, has seen remarkable growth over the years. AI in the field of education is one of the main reasons why people are willing to live technologically advanced lives.

How has AI benefited us?

The education sector of India is making progress to help reach out to it’s younger generation, by personalizing education at every step of the way. Advancements in artificial intelligence has helped grow this particular sector immensely. Including features such as virtual teachers and immersive learning has not only made studying more efficient, but has also increased student and teacher interactivity.

“The best part: students and teachers have shown an increase in productivity.”

Recent studies from eSchool News have shown that the use of AI in the field of education will grow by 47.5% by 2021. People are moving towards a more connected world, with advancements in technologies impacting all levels, from kindergarten through higher education. These advancements have opened the gates to creating smarter content with adaptive learning features, that study a student’s learning pattern. One of AI’s most useful tools is it’s pattern recognition tool, which it can use to help a student in terms of identifying which available opportunities in the current job market they can opt for.

And now, here are five ways AI is changing the education sector, for the better:

  • Automation of Administrative Tasks. Organizations and teachers equally benefit from the simplification of administrative tasks. It not only provides teachers the tool to grade assessments, homework and assignments, but also provides students with valued feedback in a matter of minutes. AI has made progress in automating the grading process in a lot of multiple choice tests to allow the educator to spend more one-on-one time with their student. Companies are in the process of creating new ways to grade written responses and essays as well. AI also helps automate paperwork during the admission process of any institute, by using it’s classification module.
  • Smarter content for a smarter generation. AI has made it possible for teachers to tailor their study programs according to the responses made by the children they are responsible for. In case if a large number of wrong responses are submitted for a specific topic on an assignment, the system alerts the teacher to implement changes in that topic to provide more emphasis on the area. Digitization of books and educational content is now hitting the market. Smart content also includes the interface to host video lectures and conferences, which students can access anytime and anywhere.

  • Virtual Assistants and personalization. Virtual Assistants play the role a virtual tutor, providing solutions to any of the difficulties a student faces specific to class material anytime. These apps provide the student with effective feedback and directly work with them, based on the data that is fed to the system about the student and their progress in each field. While AI is still in its infancy, it will soon be able to work as a full-fledged digital professor that caters to a student’s educational need. They will be also be able to adapt to a wide variety of learning styles in order to help both the teacher and the student community.
  • Virtual environments, with virtual lecturers. Virtual environments allow students to interact with a setting and learn along the way. A virtual lecturer may not entirely replace the teacher in a classroom setting, but advancements have been made to build humanoids that react to human gestures verbally and non-verbally in a natural way using the techniques of gesture recognition technology. Soon enough, augmented reality may be a part of a classroom setting as well.
  • A better student life. In a school, AI can be used to model solutions using previous data for counseling students or conducting events within its premises. Teachers can advise students on their career path with statistics previously gathered. In the case of an event, AI could make a data-driven forecast, which could be used to predict the number of people that would attend a certain event, using the data fed to it from a similar past event. With the data received, the school could order the necessary refreshments, thereby cutting down on it’s expenses.

We are already reaching the peak of development in the educational sector all around the globe. Involving technology in the process of learning can greatly benefit the future of the country, and the people responsible to educate them. Artificial intelligence has made a positive impact in the field of education, and it continues to do so.
